Why Meditate

Preparation

Environment

  • A quiet, clean space
  • Comfort temperature
  • Good ventilation
  • Soft lighting

Post

Seven-point posture is the most common meditation position:

  1. Sit on cushion, legs crossed
  2. Hands in meditation mud or resting on knees
  3. back straight, head centered
  4. Shoulders relaxed and down

Time

  • Beginner: 5-10 minutes
  • Intermediate: 15-30 minutes
  • Advanced: 45-60 minutes

Breathing

Counting breath

  1. Inhale slowly for 4 counts
  2. Hold for 4 counts
  3. Exhale slowly for 4 counts
  4. Hold for 4 counts

abdominal breathing

Belly rises on inhale, belly falls on exhale. Breathe naturally, without force.

Observing breath

Simply observe the natural process of breathing. without controlling. just awareness.

Handling thoughts

When thoughts arise, do not judge or pursue. Simply bring attention back to the breath.

Imagine thoughts as clouds in the sky - coming and going. You. Also label them: "This is worry" or "this is memory." Then let them drift away.
